Natural Herb for Treatment of Toenail Fungus

Amongst the skin diseases, fungal infections are the most common right after allergies.

Nails specifically are very prone to fungal infection due to their structure.

Before I just jump to the number of herbs and their purpose for using during the treatment of fungal infections, I would like you to understand what factors are involved in fungal infection, so that these factors should also be minimized; apart from the use of natural herbs for treatment of toenail fungus.

Long wearing of closed shoes will gather sweat in feet which accumulate under nails and promotes fungal growths. Similarly washing feet and not drying them properly and wearing shoes will have the same results.

Nails should be kept neat and clean, dry and trimmed so that they don’t provide a deep space for moisture accumulation.

Once a fungal infection has set its root in nails your nail will turn either yellow or yellowish green, becomes thick, has foul smell and starts detaching. Keep one thing in mind, fungal infections are contagious; and are carried from one person to the other.

So areas like shower stalls, swimming pools, spas and beauty parlors are the main areas that can transmit the disease to you.

Another reason that can make this happen is the immunodeficiency. Their treatment do involves various other changes in habits along with the administration of some herbal remedies.

There are many remedies which help in the healthy growth of nails and removes fungal infections from them, these are listed below.

• Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil is produced from a tree called Melaleuca Alternifolia. It is a strong antiseptic and fungicide which is applied in undiluted form along with olive oil to the affected toe nail.

You can even put the oil directly on the infected toenail, near the cuticle, the fungus can be eliminated.

Another remedy is to mix equal amount of tea tree oil and lavender oil on a cotton ball or swab and gently dab it under the top edge of the toe nail and surrounding area 2 or 3 times a day.

• Oregano and Olive Oils: Only Oregano oils if applied directly can cause irritation on the skin. Therefore it is better idea to blend 2 drops of Oregano oil with a teaspoon of olive oil.

Apply this mixture directly on the affected area daily but not more than three weeks. Oregano essential oil has antiseptic, antibacterial, antiparasitical, antiviral, analgesic and antifungal properties.

• Apple Cider Vinegar: Don’t use it in a concentrated form, just dilute it in a warm water basin and soak your toenails for 15 - 20 minutes, use equal preperations. When done, dry your toenails thoroughly.

• Manuka Oil: Manuka oil also comes in thick viscous, ozone infused form which is added to aqueous cream. It can be applied on the affected nail right between the nail and nail bed.

• Black Walnut: The green hulls of black walnut also have antifungal properties and can be used in direct application to the nail.
